Steve Byrd, M.D.
Dallas Plastic Surgeon
Dr. Steve Byrd, who has been practicing in Dallas since completing his residency in 1978, is not only among the top plastic surgeons in Texas, he has also received numerous national and international awards for his continuing work in this dynamic field. In a recent “Best Doctors in America” poll, Dr. Byrd was elected by his peers as one of the top plastic surgeons in the United States. He has been among the peer-selected “SuperDocs” award winners for a number of years, putting him in the top 5% of all Dallas area adult cosmetic surgeons. He is unique in that he has also received the “SuperDoc” honor for his work in the pediatric plastic surgery field as well. Dr. Byrd continues to bring a wide variety of medical and surgical skills to his patients, and is board certified by both the American Board of Surgery and the American Board of Plastic Surgery.
Dr. Byrd has been distinguished as a full professor at the University of Texas Southwestern and has served as Chief of Plastic Surgery at Baylor University Medical Center, and the Director of Plastic Surgery at Children’s Medical Center. Byrd is past president of the Dallas County Society of Plastic Surgery, and is a founding member, and past president of the Rhinoplasty Society.
Dr. Byrd’s practice emphasis is aesthetic surgery. He is internationally known for his development of the endoscopic facelift (EBMF – Endoscopic Brow and Midface Lift) and rhinoplasty techniques utilized in secondary rhinoplasty cases. He continues to answer invitations to travel internationally and demonstrate these and his other innovative surgical techniques to other plastic surgeons.
While rhinoplasty and facelift cases are an important part of Dr. Byrd’s practice, he also does breast augmentation and implant exchange using silicone implants. As one of the first five surgeons utilizing liposuction techniques in the United States, he has amassed an unparalleled body of work in liposuction cases.
Staying ahead of the curve, Dr. Byrd’s most recent development, the EarWell System, is a non-surgical approach to correct birth defects of the ears. There is no surgery, no anesthesia, no pain, no downtime associated with the EarWell System, and if started within the first 7 days after birth, there is a very high success rate. After birth, there’s an elevated level of the mother’s estrogen hormone in the infant’s system, which makes the ear cartilage very malleable. The EarWell treatment takes a few weeks, and in most cases makes the need for surgical correction of the ear at a later age nearly non-existent.
Compassionate Care, Before, During, and After Surgery is the foundation Dr. Byrd’s thriving Dallas practice continues to grow on. A large part of patient care is the Dallas Day Surgery Center (DDSC), located on the same floor as his office, and patient exam rooms. DDSC is a fully accredited surgical facility with a nationally quoted safety record. The Cloister, the four- room hotel adjacent to the operating facility is designed for overnight patient stay. A highly skilled nursing staff oversees post-op patient care 24-hours a day. Having exam rooms, surgery center, and after-care facilities available on the same floor offer local, and out of town patients’ ease of convenience while providing compassionate care.
